Gregory Maguire is a great writer and he has a way of taking typically known stories and characters and turning them around. This story was amazing because you get to see the wicked witch of the west in a whole new light. I love 3 dimensional characters like Elphaba because they are not the typical black and white characters who are either really good or very bad, this is a real character who has reasons that explain her wicked behavior. This book is really amazing because the wicked witch is a well known character and knowing her story makes you see the Wizard of Oz in a whole new light as well!
